Linear Extrapolation of Ultrarelativistic Nucleon-nucleon Scattering to Nucleus-nucleus Collisions

چکیده
We use a Glauber-like approach to describe very energetic nucleus-nucleus collisions as a sequence of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions. No free parameters are needed: all the information comes from simple parametrizations of nucleon-nucleon collision data. Produced mesons are assumed not to interact with each other or with the original baryons. Comparisons are made to published experimental measurements of baryon rapidity and transverse momentum distributions, negative hadron rapidity and transverse momentum distributions, average multiplicities of pions, kaons, hyperons, and antihyperons, and zero degree energy distributions for sulfur-sulfur collisions at 200 GeV/c per nucleon and for lead-lead collisions at 158 GeV/c per nucleon. Good agreement is found except that the number of strange particles produced, especially antihyperons, is too small compared with experiment. We call this model LEXUS: it is a baseline linear extrapolation of ultrarelativistic nucleon-nucleon scattering to heavy ion collisions. † [email protected] ‡ [email protected]

Information obtained from nucleus as a bound system of nucleons and from nucleon-nucleon scattering experiments is a strong tool for studying various aspects of nuclear forces. Deuteron-deuteron scattering as a four-nucleon system can provide useful information. So, scattering experiment of a polarized beam of deuteron with kinetic energy of65 MeV/nucleon from a liquid-deuterium target was done...
متن کاملInterpretation of the First Data on Central Au + Au Collisions at √ s = 56 and 130 A GeV
We compare three semi-microscopic theories to the first data on particle production in central Au+Au collisions taken at RHIC by the PHOBOS collaboration as well as to existing data on central Pb+Pb collisions taken at the SPS by the NA49 collaboration. LEXUS represents the SPS data quite well but not the RHIC data, whereas the wounded nucleon model does the opposite. The collective tube model ...

Charm production in antiproton-nucleus collisions at the J/ψ and the ψ ′ thresholds Abstract We discuss the production of charmonium states in antiproton-nucleus collisions at the ψ ′ threshold. It is explained that measurements in ¯ pA collisions will allow to get new information about the strengths of the inelastic J/ψN, ψ ′ N interaction, on the production of Λc and ¯ D in charmonium-nucleon...
متن کاملMomentum Loss in Proton-Nucleus and Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions
An optical model description, based on multiple scattering theory, of longitudinal momentum loss in proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions is presented. The crucial role of the imaginary component of the nucleon-nucleon transition matrix in accounting for longitudinal momentum transfer is demonstrated. Results obtained with this model are compared with Intranuclear Cascade (INC) calculat...
متن کاملA Monte Carlo generator of nucleon configurations in complex nuclei including Nucleon-Nucleon correlations
We developed a Monte Carlo event generator for production of nucleon configurations in complex nuclei consistently including effects of Nucleon-Nucleon (NN) correlations. Our approach is based on the Metropolis search for configurations satisfying essential constraints imposed by shortand long-range NN correlations, guided by the findings of realistic calculations of oneand two-body densities f...
